(elegant music) - In the name and spirit of our Lord, Jesus the Christ, I greet you on this blessed night, this holy night, this Christmas Eve. We gather here to rejoice over the coming of our Lord to this earth, for Christmas happened and Christmas happens right now right here where we are. And so may the spirit of Christ come very close just now to remind us of God's most precious gift to us. May the spirit of Christ come very close just now to bind us to one another with a love that knows no end. May the spirit of Christ come very close just now to draw us ever closer to the God who loves us and comes to us. We gather this night to celebrate a promise, a promise from God in Christ that brings light in the midst of our darkness, hope to those who are in despair, release, pray God, to those who are in captivity, joy to us in the midst of our sorrow, life that overcomes even our death. Yes, we come together tonight to celebrate life, the life that Christ brought and lived, that Christ gives, and that Christ promises forever. This is the time and the occasion to celebrate the good news. My dear friends, I invite you now to join with the choir as we join with all the saints of all the ages to sing, sing and rejoice and celebrate for God is in us, God is with us, God is among us. Come now, let us sing and worship the Lord our God, Amen. ♪ Of the Father's love begotten ♪ ♪ Ere the worlds began to be ♪ ♪ He is Alpha and Omega ♪ ♪ He the source, the ending he ♪ ♪ Of the things that are, that have been ♪ ♪ And that future years shall see ♪ ♪ Evermore and evermore ♪ (triumphant music) ♪ O come, all ye faithful ♪ ♪ Joyful and triumphant ♪ ♪ O come ye, O come ye ♪ ♪ To Bethlehem ♪ ♪ Come and behold him ♪ ♪ Born the king of angels ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore ♪ ♪ Him, Christ the Lord ♪ ♪ Sing, choirs of angels ♪ ♪ Sing in exultation ♪ ♪ Sing, all ye citizens ♪ ♪ Of heaven above ♪ ♪ Glory to God, all ♪ ♪ Glory in the highest ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore ♪ ♪ Him, Christ the Lord ♪ ♪ See how the shepherds ♪ ♪ Summoned to his cradle ♪ ♪ Leaving their flocks ♪ ♪ Draw nigh to gaze ♪ ♪ We too will thither ♪ ♪ Bend our joyful footsteps ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore ♪ ♪ Him, Christ the Lord ♪ ♪ Child, for us sinners ♪ ♪ Poor and in the manger ♪ ♪ We would embrace thee ♪ ♪ With love and awe ♪ ♪ Who would not love thee ♪ ♪ Loving us so dearly ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore ♪ ♪ Him, Christ the Lord ♪ ♪ Yea, Lord, we greet thee ♪ ♪ Born this happy morning ♪ ♪ Jesus, to thee be ♪ ♪ All glory given ♪ ♪ Son of the Father ♪ ♪ Now in flesh appearing ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore him ♪ ♪ O come, let us adore ♪ ♪ Him, Christ the Lord ♪ - Beloved in Christ, at this Christmas Eve, let it be our desire and our delight to hear again the message of the angels who spoke the good news long ago, and let us in heart and mind go even unto Bethlehem and see this glorious event which has come to pass and behold the babe lying in a manger. Therefore, let us read and hear from Holy Scripture the tale of the loving purposes of God from the times of Isaiah even unto the glorious redemption brought for us by the child. And so now in his spirit and with his love in us, let us offer to God our prayers. O God, we pray for the needs of the whole world, for peace on earth and goodwill among all your people, for unity and understanding within the church Christ came to build. O God, we remember in the name of Christ the poor and helpless, the cold, the hungry, and the oppressed, the sick and those who mourn, the lonely and unloved, the aged and the little children, all those who need love and care and healing and health in this mortal life. And then, O God, we remember all those who rejoice with us in the good news of the coming of the Christ child, that multitude without number, those whose hope is fulfilled in the word made flesh, and all those with whom we are one now and forevermore. Come very near now, O God, and warm our hearts with your divine loving, sustaining presence. We wait as little children to sing and rejoice together. Give us hearts and voices of one sound and mind to receive and to share your love this night and tomorrow and all the tomorrows yet to be. We offer this prayer and the prayer which Christ taught us, saying. - Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in heaven.
