(tranquil organ music) (congregation singing) - Let us unite in this historic confession of the Christian faith. - I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and Earth and of all things invisible and visible and in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. You are the father before all worlds, God of God, light of light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father through whom all things were made who for us men and for our salvation came down from Heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary and was made man and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried and the third day he rose according to the scriptures and ascended into Heaven and sitth on the right hand of the Father and he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead whose kingdom shall have no end and I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord, the giver of life who preceded from the Father and the Son who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spake by the prophets and I believe in one holy Catholic and apostolic church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, amen. - The Lord be with you. - And also with you. - Let us pray. Most holy and loving God, we call out to you for mercy in this reflective time of Lent when our thoughts grapple with the human problems that seem to control our lives. We are afraid of the darkness in our hearts and the darkness in our world. Free us from this fear so that we may boldly claim your transforming power. For the church throughout the world, we pray, oh God. Grant that every member may truly and courageously serve you. We pray for those gathered here this day with our special needs and concerns, for the students and faculty returning from their rest, for the visitors, for all of us in this congregation, grant the light of your eternal truth. May all who confess your name live together in your love and reveal your glory to the world. As the creative power of God begins to show itself in the beginning in the spring, may that power become manifest in new and honest hearts. Guide the leaders and people of this land and of all the nations in the ways of justice and peace that we may honor one another and serve the common good. We pray for those countries where war is raging and where the threat of war is constant. Bring rapid solutions to the problems which have caused the paralyzing conflicts in so many corners of our globe. For the sick in body or spirit, we ask your healing presence. For the starving masses, we ask for food for body and spirit. For the dying, we ask for eternal life. For the poor, the persecuted, the refugees, the prisoners, and even the terrorist, we pray, oh God, redeem them for their sakes and for ours. Grant that all of us may know how to respond to the needs of our fellow brothers and sisters here in our midst and in all parts of the world for yours, oh Lord, is the power and the glory now and forever. Amen. We are a people of God, forgiven and reconciled, therefore let us offer ourselves and our gifts to God. (tranquil organ music) (lively organ music) (choir singing) (tranquil organ music) (congregation singing) - Almighty and most merciful God, who giveth every good and perfect gift, we give thee thanks and praise for all thy mercies. Thy goodness hath created us, thy bounty hath sustained us and thy patient love hath found us. Give us a heart to love and serve thee that we may cheerfully submit in all things unto thy blessed will. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray with confidence. - Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever. - Amen.
