Species delimitation using networks (Visiting Scholar)
Delimiting species using single gene trees may give incorrect, but well supported, results because of the stochastic nature of gene coalescence. Multi-gene methods for species delimitation are in their infancy. This project proposes to build networks of taxon association with the edges weighted by evidence from several genes. Then it will apply techniques for partitioning weighted networks of taxon association to identify dense modules having greater than expected levels of connectedness. The visit will enable collaborations to consider the scientific merits of the proposal and the appropriate software to be developed.
