Personal letter by someone that was, at some point, adopted by Prince William Augustus (1721-1765), Duke of Cumberland, and later delivered to his uncle, of the Argyle family. It could refer to the family of the Dukes of Argyll, who were for several centuries among the most powerful noble families in Scotland. In particular it could refer to Colonel the Hon. Archibald Campbell Fraser, nephew of John Campbell, 5th Duke of Argyll (June 1723 – 24 May 1806). It relates some aspects of his life, including his military life. The letter can be dated around 1802.
