Copy of a decreee by the king, Philip V of Spain, regarding the separation of four convents in New Spain from the Bethlehemitas Order. Decree signed in Corella on September 14 of 1711, after being discussed by the "Consejo de Indias" on August 18. The Bethlemitas are a religious order (whose official name is the Order of the Brothers of Our Lady of Bethlehem) created in 1656 in Guatemala by the Spanish missionary Pedro de San Jose Betancur, in order to serve the poor. Betlemitas was the first religious order born in America. The Order was approved by Pope Innocent XI in 1687. In 1674 came to New Spain the first friars Betlemitas.
