  • Diary, dated 1842-1844, provides account of actions taken to support African-American colonists in Liberia. Diary details attempts to punish natives for the death of an American seaman as well as the killing of people and the burning of towns and villages. Includes a description of a visit to the captured slave ship, the Uncas.
