- Title:
- Janice Riggle-Huie - "Circuses, Silence, and Imagination" (November 15, 1981)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 31:33. Sermon end time: (Part 2) 5:34.
Synthesizing the silence in which Elijah heard God’s voice with the laments of Jesus that his disciples have “eyes but do not see,” Riggle-Huie laments that we do not allow expectant silences into our faith so that our imagination may run wild with God; citing T.S. Eliot, Henry Nouen, Dr. Seuss, and others, she asks her congregation to allow the irrational, the silent, and the imaginative to fill their prayer life. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: Listening to God requires a silence and a letting of our imagination run free.
