- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "The Chosen" (March 16, 1986)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 24:45. Sermon end time: (Part 2) 5:50.
The preacher argues that God didn’t favor Abel’s offering over Cain’s because Abel offered with right attitude; rather, God was surprised by Cain’s jealousy and hatred towards his brother, since God has always loved them the same. The origin of sin is the attempt to exclude other people from the love of God. Though Cain was a murderer and sinner, God still sealed him, blessed him, and made him a great nation. The preacher reminds his audience that God loves us all because of grace, not because of our own merit. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
