- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "Us against Them" (March 19, 1989)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 3:27. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 27:23.
On the meaning of “God hardened Pharaoh’s heart”, the preacher argues that it means God “encourages” Pharaoh to be Pharaoh, to be tough on the Israelites, so that people know emancipation comes from God, not from Pharaoh’s repentance. The preacher contends that God uses both Pharaoh and Judas as instruments for salvation. Pharaoh and Judas are the prodigal sons who also have God as their father. The preacher identified American war as “Pharaoh” and in a strange way, as a saving grace. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
