- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "A Political Joke" (January 26, 1997)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 0:22. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 18:35.
The preacher observes that human beings tend to use hostility against another group to gain their own group’s unity. In Jonah’s story, told as a satire political joke, God commands Jonah to preach to his enemies, the Ninevites. The preacher argues that Jonah’s story and ours show that God is the God of all people, using mercy to unite people in conflict. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
