- Title:
- William B. Lawrence - "When the Gifts of God Aren't Enough" (August 3, 1997)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: 00:10. Sermon end time: 21:16.
The gifts of God are embedded in the structure of our lives. We are often tempted to doubt that they are enough, and so we become takers, seeking to control the gifts for our own benefit. This response inevitably leads to suffering, particularly that of the innocent and vulnerable. But if we respond properly, and celebrate the gifts each of us has been given, this can become the seeds of a true, Christian community. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: “When people ignore the structure of gifts embedded in life, and become simply takers, they deprive themselves of lasting hope, and they inflict immense suffering upon the innocent.”
