- Title:
- Carter Heyward - "The Enigmatic God" (November 20, 1977)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 41:05. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 1:14:58.
Drawing from process theology, feminist theology, and reflection on God's revelation of God's name "I am who I am/I will be who I willbe," Heyward presents a meditation of God's radical freedom and commitment to identify with God's creation and invites the listener to live into the freedom to be who she or he is in God, by God, through God and names four qualities which are ways of God: wisdom, passion, justice, and prayer. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: Jesus Christ did not come to clarify the enigmatic God. Jesus Christ did not come to help us put God into an incarnate box that we can carry around with us and show off as God … Jesus came as one created in God, by God, empowered to move with God into the pain, the passion, and the wonder of creation itself.”
