- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "God's Story, Your Story" (May 11, 1990)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: 35:47. Sermon end time: 56:46.
Preaching from the parable of “The Prodigal Son,” at this commencement service, the preacher speaks to the radical fatherhood of God, who loves both “sons” in ways that do not abandon them to their own devices. In application, the preacher assures his student-audience that God meets people, as the father met the younger son, when good times go bad, as well as meeting in their self-righteousness, as with the older son. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: "The real prodigal, the really extravagant one, is the father--whose behavior is more excessive than either the younger brother's loose living or the older brother's moral rectitude."
