- Title:
- William H. Willimon - "Hell Is for Accountants" (September 23, 1990)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: 21:31. Sermon end time: 38:57.
The preacher notices that when talking about forgiveness, it seems like one person's grace is another's judgment; that God's love is heaven to one and hell to another. He argues that the bookkeeping of others’ sins is a sin in itself, and that there is no balance that the grace of God refuses to forgive. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: "The parable suggests that God has given up salvation 'by the books.' That God quit keeping score on us a long time ago. And now the only way to get saved is to come to the party, to let go our accounting and be as reckless, as prodigal with the grace as God wants."
