- Title:
- Mark E. Grazman - "Moshe the Beadle" (February 9, 1992)
- Description:
-
We, like the people to whom Isaiah prophesied, and the Jews of Sighet whom Moise the Beadle warned of the coming persecution, allow ourselves to complacently march into political and social catastrophes, because we do not have ears to hear the warnings. We must not think of these incidents as distant anomalies that couldn't possibly become realities to us. Rather, we must heed the present danger evidenced by figures like David Duke, and set ourselves in opposition to these movements. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 26:09. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 53:39.
Key quotation: “Men like Elie Wiesel have fought off death and destruction to warn mankind of what is awaiting us. To warn us of what could happen, and what is already happening. But, as in Isaiah, the stump of destruction can be made into the holy seed. Not will be made, but can be made. The stump of destruction can be made into the holy seed. However, unless we begin to use what we know, we will hear only what we want to hear, only what we are able to hear. And like innocent sheep, we will quietly march on.”
